Welcome Back! Reed Start-Up Lab gears up for 2013

30 Aug

Hi All,

We are looking forward to a great new year of entrepreneurship at Reed.  We will host another Reed College Start-Up Lab during Working Weekend on February 1, 2 and 3, 2013.  But this doesn’t mean you have to wait to get something started.  Feel free to discuss ideas or seek co-founders and teammates using the wall for this blog!

To inspire you, let me give you an update on the winning Reed Start-Up Lab teams. First prize team, Emotitron, comprised of Matt Fernandez, Akash Krishnan, Clemmie Wotherspoon, Gabriel Forsythe y Koszeniewicz, and Finn Terdal is going strong.  They formally established the company as an LLC, Simple Emotion (simpleemotion.com) and have taken residency at the Portland State University Business Accelerator.  Clemmie and Gabriel are managing day-to-day operations, while Matt attends Stanford and Akash attends MIT.

Zach Babb of the second prize team Ha.Lo secured a summer internship with GlobeSherpa, a member of the Portland Seed Fund’s summer 2012 class on the recommendation of TIE Angel leader Nitin Rai, who served on the Reed Start-Up Lab Investor Panel.  Beginning this fall, Zach will be working full time as GlobeSherpa’s mobile applications engineer.

Pretty good results from the winners of the first Reed Start-Up Lab.  I am looking forward to see what we can do in 2013!
